Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, including your name, email address, and the content you create within StoryDNA. We also collect usage data to improve the service.

Specifically, we collect the following categories of data:

  • Account information: name, email address, and authentication credentials
  • Story content: your answers to builder questions and any text you create within projects
  • Usage analytics: page views, feature usage patterns, and session duration
  • Payment information: processed securely by Stripe (we do not store card numbers)
  • Device and browser information: collected automatically for service optimization

How We Use It

Your information is used to provide and improve the StoryDNA service, process transactions, and communicate with you about your account.

Third-Party Services

StoryDNA uses the following third-party services to operate: Convex (database and backend), Stripe (payment processing), Clerk (authentication), and Anthropic (AI features). Each service has its own privacy policy governing the data they process.

Here is what each sub-processor receives:

  • Convex — Data storage and backend processing (all application data)
  • Stripe — Payment processing (billing details, transaction history)
  • Clerk — Authentication (email, name, login credentials, session tokens)
  • Anthropic — AI text generation (story answers sent for brainstorm suggestions and report generation). Per Anthropic's data policy, user content submitted via the API is not used for model training and is not retained beyond the duration of the API request.
  • Vercel — Web hosting and content delivery (request logs, IP addresses)
  • Sentry — Error tracking (anonymized error reports, browser metadata)
  • Resend — Transactional email delivery (email address, account notification content)

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the user menu within the app.

Active account data is retained while your account exists. When you delete your account, all associated data will be purged within 30 days. Anonymized aggregate usage statistics may be retained for service improvement purposes.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights under GDPR, CCPA, or similar regulations, including the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data.

EU/EEA residents (GDPR): You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, and port your personal data. You may also object to processing and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, contact support@storydna.app.

California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact support@storydna.app.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to maintain your session and preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

Specifically, StoryDNA uses session cookies for authentication purposes only. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or any third-party analytics cookies. No cookie consent banner is required as we only use strictly necessary cookies.

Vercel Analytics, which we use for aggregate usage statistics, is fully cookieless and does not set any cookies or use tracking pixels. It collects no personally identifiable information.

Your Content Is Private

Your stories, answers, and creative works are yours alone. StoryDNA does not access, read, review, share, sell, or monetize your content in any way. Your data is siloed to your account and is never exposed to other users, third parties, or StoryDNA staff except as required to provide the service (e.g., processing AI requests on your behalf).

We do not mine user content for ideas, trends, or commercial purposes. Any similarities between your work and other published or unpublished stories in the world are entirely coincidental. We have no mechanism to surface, compare, or cross-reference content between user accounts.
