Why fixing your character's worldview isn't enough
Under your protagonist's rule for how to live sits a low opinion of themselves, and an ending that fixes only the rule lands early.
Each time The Lie pays off, your protagonist credits the rule instead of themselves, so their low opinion of themselves is never tested and The Lie grows stronger with every win.
Every time your protagonist's false belief works, it gets harder to break. The belief takes the credit.
Say your protagonist's rule is "stay unattached." That's what StoryDNA calls The Lie: the false belief they live by. Under it, they usually hold a low opinion of themselves, like "I'm not worth staying for."
Here's how it runs day to day. Staying unattached works. A deal closes, a loss is avoided. Your protagonist decides the rule kept them safe.
Your protagonist never thinks, "I was safe because of me, and maybe I'm worth staying for." The win was theirs, but the rule took the credit. So their low opinion of themselves never gets tested.
So the belief gets stronger on its own. Every win makes the rule feel less like a choice and more like how things are.
In There Will Be Blood, Daniel Plainview credits every well he brings in to one rule: own everything, trust no one, and you still win.
Anyone who credits their safety to their defenses never finds out whether they'd have been fine without them.
The longer your protagonist wins on The Lie's terms, the more they have to lose when it fails. So list every win The Lie takes credit for before your story breaks it.

Your protagonist keeps their false belief because it is paying them something real, and the payout should be good enough that someone in the story admires it.
The Lie makes your protagonist's best quality look like a danger, so the change doesn't add a strength, it points the one they already had somewhere new.
